It is after ten o'clock in the evening on June 5, 2011. The camera is pointed at the same location where we saw a Maine black bear a few hours ago. Now a moose comes into view. Judging from the moose crap all over the woods, I'm thinking that we have a lot of moose in the forests of Petra, Maine. I have seen moose here, once when I surprised a couple of them at another camera location, and again when one crossed the road as I was coming into Petra.
According to state biologists, Maine's moose population is estimated at 29,000. Roughly 78% of hunters with a moose license get their moose each year.
