Although you can't see clearly what the deer is eating, I think the deer appreciated the apples and the corn that I had left in this clearing more than the moose did. The moose chose to eat leaves instead, while I think the deer is eating some of the stuff that I had left. When I retrieved the disk from my wildlife camera, most of it had been eaten anyhow.
This is the same clearing where we saw a couple of moose a few days ago. The clearing is in the forest of Petra, Maine. The wildlife camera is facing the animal trail, such as it is, that would lead to a seasonal road that cuts through the property, although it's a bit of a walk. To the left of the screen, if you were to walk through the woods, you might arrive at my compost area, although it's not particularly close to this clearing. To the right of the camera view, you would find an animal trail that leads through some wet ground, eventually entering a dense cedar swamp that is on our property. Behind the camera are many miles of forest.
