White-tailed deer

The click and flash of a camera is not what this young whitetail deer expected when it entered this small clearing at 8:45 o'clock in the evening. On all sides of this tiny opening in the tree canopy is a dark, dense cedar swamp. The swamp is on the far southern portion of the hundred acre tract of land known as Petra, in the northern part of Aroostook County, Maine's northernmost county. No one lives near here and the only road passing through the property is a seasonal road that is little more than an ATV/snowmobile trail. The deer is staring directly at the camera.
