The clearing in which the white-tailed deer is feeding is very small; the camera shows us nearly all of it that there is. This small opening is surrounded on all sides by a dense cedar swamp with a canopy that prohibits light from reaching the forest floor, except for small openings here and there, such as this. Other than in these small clearings, little grows on the floor of the cedar swamp other than moss and mushrooms. Much of the terrain here is wet, yet it is more ground than water.
