Maine black bear

It's hard to assign thoughts to a bear, although I'm sure they have them. This black bear seems alert right now. If you remember, he was lying down eating an apple a few moments ago. His left front paw is resting on what's left of the apple right now. The direction he's looking is an animal trail that leads deeper into the forest. If you were to walk in the direction the camera is facing, you'd find a trail that leads past my compost pile and on to the seasonal road that passes through Petra, Maine. In the opposite direction, another animal trail leads to another part of the deeper woods. If you were to walk around the brush pile, you'd come to another trail that would eventually lead into the cedar swamp, but that would be a long, wet walk.
