I don't know what the Maine black bear is doing here, but it has something to do with the tree. Seconds ago, he was staring off into the forest, but now his attention is on the small birch tree that you can see here. I call it the bear tree because this bear, in particular, seems always to an undue amount of attention to this tree. The poor thing doesn't have a lot of bark left.
