Maine black bear

Black bears live long lives, and are capable of living for thirty years in the wild. As expected, they are most vulnerable before they reach maturity. Nearly half of newborn cubs will die in their first year, starvation being the most common cause of death. At two years of age, the Maine black bear's chance of long-term survival is better than ninety percent, with most deaths being the result of hunting and other human-related causes.
