Black bears have straight facial profiles and massive skulls. Maine black bears are usually black, but black bears in the western part of the United States are sometimes brown or even cream colored. Black bears in coastal British Columbia and Alaska are sometimes white or blue-gray in color. Black bears have a brown muzzle and sometimes a white patch on the throat or chest.
