In areas where there is concentrated food, such as rubbish heaps or campgrounds, more than one black bear might visit at the same time, but bears are generally not social animals. Rather, they are solitary. Cubs may stay with their mother for two winters, but will leave or be driven away during their second summer. Where there are siblings, they may remain together for another year or two until they have reached full adulthood. Sometimes siblings will establish home areas that interlap, but they don't hang out together as adults.
