Most of a black bear's movements are unhurried, shuffling along at a pace of two or three miles an hour, eating continuously along the way. Black bears are inclined to take naps whenever they please, and seem always willing to be distracted from whatever purpose they may have had. Bears are seldom rushed unless something frightens them.
