This small clearing is a common place for my wildlife camera to find this Maine black bear. Whenever I visit the forests of Petra, Maine in order to retrieve the disk from the camera, I have begun to make note of the time so that I can see if, by chance, a bear might have been there just before me, in which case it might well have been hiding out of sight in the forest, watching me. So far, there has always been a distance of hours between my visits and those of the bear, but I also avoid the times when the bears are found here most often, which is early in the morning and after 5:00 p.m. I love my bear, but would rather love him at a distance.
