Maine black bear

Trails regularly used by black bears will be packed down, with all vegetation flattened along the trails, and may even be worn down to the bare soil if the trail is heavily used by multiple bears, such as may be seen leading to bait sites or dump sites frequented by black bears. Bears have a tendency to step in the same spots each time they walk the same route, with other bears often following in the footsteps of those who went before them. Bear trails will sometimes tunnel through thickets, leaving tunnels through the brush about three feet high.
