The bear is standing so that he can see over the long grass, looking across the field toward the direction of a bend in the road. While it is possible that an ATV or car may be traveling along the road, it is unlikely that anyone would be there after dark. More likely, it is another animal that has gotten the bear's attention. Moose and deer bed down in the long grass along the field, and there are other bear in the area as well.
