My Primos Truth Cam 35 wildlife camera has been mounted in various places in the one hundred acres of Petra, Maine since early this spring, before the snow melted. When several days have gone by since the last series of photographs were published, this is indicative of one of two possibilities.
We have had a very wet spring and summer. The longest period we've gone without rain has been three days and, so far, that has only happened once; and as I write this, it is nearing the middle of August. We have had several fierce thunderstorms that produce a huge amount of rain. In testimony to the ruggedness and dependability of the Primos Truth Cam 35, this camera has been out there the whole time, and no damage was done to it. There were a couple of times however, when none of the photos were usable, since there was just too much rain on the camera lens.
There have also been some fairly long gaps in which no animal apparently came by that was able to cause the right conditions, those being a combination of movement and body heat, to trigger the camera. Sometimes, this may have been due to camera placement.
In the hope of getting some different animals on camera, I tried placing it in the middle of the cedar swamp once. This proved difficult for me to retrieve the disk on a regular basis, plus it appeared that no animals large enough to trigger the camera went there.
This particular camera location was a very small opening in the middle of the cedar swamp. It posed possible two problems. One, it may just happen to be a place where animals didn't go. The heavy cedar canopy in the area all around it was such that light couldn't penetrate to the floor, so nothing grew there but moss and mushrooms. The clearing that I chose as a camera location was so small that it didn't produce much in the way of vegetation to attract animals seeking food. The other possible problem was that what was growing there was so high that I don't know that any animal shorter than a moose would have been visible.
Although, later a deer shows up in some night photos, and the deer is clearly visible.
The camera took several photos from this location over the past week, but I was unable to see an animal in any of them. I am including three of them in this collection, anyhow.
